About the Customer

OneCare is a connected healthcare platform designed to bridge the gap between hospitals, doctors, and patients through a unified digital experience. The platform enables teleconsultation, video calls, remote patient monitoring, family healthcare record management, appointment scheduling, billing, and patient engagement services. Healthcare providers use the platform to monitor patient conditions, adjust treatment plans, and improve care coordination while reducing administrative effort and patient wait times.

Deployment Status

OneCare launched its AWS-native healthcare platform into full production in February 2025. The platform is actively used by healthcare providers and patients across its target regions, with production workloads running on Amazon EKS supported by automated disaster recovery, centralized observability, and continuous patient engagement services.

Overview

As healthcare providers increasingly adopt digital care delivery models, OneCare set out to build a connected healthcare platform capable of supporting communication, patient engagement, clinical workflows, and remote monitoring through a single application experience.

Delivering this vision required a scalable and resilient cloud foundation capable of supporting sensitive healthcare data, continuous patient care operations, and growing numbers of patients, families, doctors, and healthcare institutions.

To support these requirements, OneCare partnered with OneData to architect and operationalize a cloud-native healthcare platform on AWS using containerized workloads, automated infrastructure provisioning, centralized security controls, disaster recovery automation, and full-stack observability. The fully governed platform entered production in February 2025.

Opportunity | Supporting Connected Healthcare at Scale

Building a unified healthcare platform introduced a unique set of technical and operational challenges.

The platform needed to support multiple communication channels, including video consultations, teleconsultation, and messaging, while maintaining a consistent user experience for patients, doctors, and healthcare organizations.

As the application evolved, operational maturity became equally important. Application deployments lacked a standardized container orchestration strategy, increasing the risk of service interruptions that could affect patient-facing healthcare services.

Data protection and recovery capabilities required improvement to ensure continuity of care during infrastructure disruptions. At the same time, decentralized credential management introduced governance challenges for a platform responsible for handling sensitive healthcare information.

The organization also required improved visibility across infrastructure, containers, storage, and application services to proactively identify issues, support troubleshooting, and maintain platform reliability.

Solution | Building a Cloud-Native Healthcare Platform with AWS

To address these challenges, OneData designed and implemented a cloud-native healthcare platform using AWS-native services and Kubernetes-based application management. All components described below are live in production as of February 2025.

The OneCare application was fully containerized and deployed on Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (Amazon EKS), providing a scalable and resilient platform for healthcare workloads. AWS Cloud Development Kit (AWS CDK) was used to automate infrastructure provisioning, enabling rapid and repeatable deployment of the complete application environment.

To improve disaster recovery readiness, Persistent Volume Claims were integrated into an automated recovery strategy that allowed environments to be rebuilt and reconnected with existing application data. Amazon Data Lifecycle Manager automated EBS snapshot creation, dynamically adjusting backup frequency during periods of increased clinical activity to reduce recovery point exposure.

Container images were centrally managed through Amazon Elastic Container Registry (Amazon ECR), providing controlled image versioning, deployment consistency, and secure access management. AWS Secrets Manager centralized the management of application credentials, API keys, and database passwords while enforcing least-privilege access controls through IAM policies.

Amazon S3 with Object Versioning was implemented to store clinical documents, patient uploads, and application assets, providing recovery capabilities for accidental deletions and supporting long-term data retention requirements.

Amazon DynamoDB supported high-volume healthcare transactions, including patient monitoring data, appointments, and care plan updates. Amazon CloudFront and Amazon Simple Email Service (Amazon SES) were integrated to improve content delivery performance and support appointment notifications, patient communications, and platform-generated alerts.

Observability and operational governance were strengthened through Amazon CloudWatch Agent and AWS Systems Manager Parameter Store, enabling centralized metrics collection, log aggregation, and real-time monitoring across compute and container environments.
